Ground Lessons Schedule (PVT)

This is our list of ground lessons and their associated content. The ground lessons for each training day will be listed on your own personalized schedule, click here for a sample schedule.

Ground lesson 1.  Go over all equipment purchased by the student, inspect aircraft logbooks for proper tests and inspections, talk about AROW, TOMATO FLAMES and ensure that the aircraft is in airworthy condition. Discuss the expectations of student during the course and put student at ease. Talk about dangerous attitudes in aviation, health concerns (relating to illness, medication, stress, alcohol, fatigue and emotional) and common mistakes made that contribute to accidents/incidents. Ground lesson 2. Discuss proper radio procedures, including the radio cheat sheet, discuss phonetic alphabet (alpha, bravo, charlie etc...), taxiway signs, runway markings and pattern work. Discuss left turning tendencies during takeoff. Discuss emergency procedures.

Ground lesson 3. Discuss cross country procedures, plan a +50 nm flight for the nights flight lesson. Discuss aeronautical charts and airspace. Discuss night XC considerations, night emergency procedures.

Ground lesson 4. Discuss weight and balance, aircraft performance charts, review poh/afm density altitude calculations, review the e6b computer. Continue with cross country planning.

Ground lesson 5. Discuss private pilot privileges and limitations, discuss the FAR/AIM, discuss the basic VFR weather minimums chart, discuss weather reports (aviationweather.gov). Review emergency procedures. Plan a day cross country to 2 different airports then back to home base.

Ground lesson 6.  Discuss airspace, transition routes, weather minimums, weather chart depiction. Discuss aerodynamic principles.

Ground lesson 7. Administer and review the pre-solo written test, discuss the PPL practical test standards,.  review the POH, review the FAR/AIM. Discuss instrument flight procedures.

Ground lesson 8. Discuss emergency procedures, review problem areas on the airmans knowledge test, start preparing for the oral exam.

Ground lesson 9. Review weight and balance data, aeronautical decision making, crash report review, airport information sources, NTSB accident reporting requirements.

Ground lesson 10. Review airmans knowledge test.

Ground lesson 11. Reserved if necessary

Ground lesson 12. Prep for checkride oral exam.

Ground lesson 13. Prep for checkride oral exam.

Ground lesson 14. Prep for checkride oral exam.

Ground lesson 15. Prep for checkride oral exam.
